For the legal ceremony, in England, it must be performed within a licensed permanent structure. During 2020 we completed our bespoke hand crafter Summer House. A stunning structure set on the edge of the Abbey, within the grounds. Designed and built by Simon Bowler, taking inspiration from the abbeys archways. With solid Oak beams and Yorkshire slate floor.
The summer house can hold small ceremonies for around 20 guests.
For larger weddings, we have two locations we recommend for your guests to watch your ceremony followed by the couple, 2 witnesses and registrars completing the legal part within our Summer House
Located in the heart of the Abbey, with the high wall watching over, the cloisters can hold well over 100 guests with amble room. With two weeping ash trees located at the back of the aisle leading to the Chapter House, a stunning backdrop for your guests.
After the ceremony, your guest will go onto the welcome drinks and your legal ceremony will happen during this time. Then rejoin your guests for the celebrations.
The Infirmary Wall
Located in the same place as the Summer House, your guests will look onto the naturally decorated infirmary wall. This location is perfect for a stretch tent structure, with the surrounding stones and parkland, creates a feeling of space but within covered shelter.
In good or bad weather we would always recommend hiring a stretch tent structure. In bad weather you still have shelter for your ceremony. If the weather is good, you may choose to hold the ceremony within the cloisters and have your welcome drinks within the structure.
