The Tearoom Story
In 1994 Carol and Ian bought the tearoom complex which was in a totally run down state, they set too to make it a centre of relaxation for the Abbeys Visitor and the weary traveller, some years later after winning an award for best afternoon tea we think we have achieved that, visitors come from far and wide to sample our delights.
Specializing in cakes from the beginning, traditional to modern even our own creations we have won the hearts of many who come through our doors, with a choice of some eight to twelve different flavours daily.
Carrying on that tradition Carol and Ian’s two daughters came home after their education to help develop the business even further, Anna carrying on the tradition of the baking and Gayle bringing with her, her award winning bespoke cake decorating business ‘Where the Ribbon Ends’ claiming a silver award at cake international 2016.
Together we now produce as much as we can on the premises, all food is cooked to order to ensure freshness, we source ingredients locally and Yorkshire based, even Developing our own range of pickles along the way, piccalilli and beetroot relish being the favourites, which we sell in our food hall and serve on the menu.
The Chapter House events room which opened in 2015 is now licenced for weddings and works very well for celebrating a special occasion all based around our award-winning pre-booked Afternoon Teas with deliciously Yorkshire based on the seasons, which Anna developed in 2015, we can seat up to 60 people with individual or buffet style Teas. See our menu, at least 24-hour notice and booking is essential to avoid disappointment.
