Cakes and Scones

We have never lost the enthusiasm to make a difference to our customer. Our friendly staff are willing to help in any way possible.

We pride ourselves on our baking, Carol, who opened the Tearooms in 1994 always wanted to bake our own cakes and that still stands today.  Now youngest daughter Anna, bakes all the cakes and scones for the Tearooms, Carol now bakes all the pastries and savoury items for lunch menu, where possible food is sourced in Yorkshire, our free range eggs from Wensleydale Eggs in Finghall only 4 miles away, ensuring quality and accountability of all our products.  

Using seasonal fruits and vegetables, grown from our own garden or grown locally.  Father, Ian, used to farm the estate now has a vegetable patch in the garden and regularly brings fresh rhubarb, red currants or blackberries, the list goes on, for us to create something yummy for the cake counter.

Specialising in home baking we use recipes from traditional to the unusual, like our Wild Flower Honey Cake. Our baking is known throughout the country, we have even sent recipes worldwide. With over 20 years' experience, our recipe collection is over 100 different types of cakes and pastries, we collected some of our favourites to create our very own recipe book ‘in their footsteps’ to celebrate our 25th year, 2019.  Available from the Tearooms and to post.

Daily we have between 6 to 12 different cakes to choose from, whether it's a Belgium Chocolate Raspberry Truffle or the classic Blueberry & Lemon Cake with Cream Cheese Icing, we have plenty to tempt that sweet tooth.  At the end of 2018 we released our own recipe book, ‘in their footsteps’ to celebrate our 25th year of opening the Tearooms and homebaking for 25 years. 


Lunch Menu

Served between 11am-3pm

Our family’s ethos to make our own or support local businesses is visible throughout our varied menu.

Homemade soup, served with gourmet roll or fill from our selection of sandwhiches.  GF option available 

Homemade spicy bean burgers served with our own chilli jam in a beer sour dough bun and salad. DF and vegan

Homemade salmon fish cakes served with our beetroot relish and salad. DF GF 

Beef burgers from Rogers Butchers in Masham, local and sustainable sourced meat from Yorkshire.  Add bacon and cheese or Blue 16, from Hawes and our own Wensleydale beer chutney. 

Jervaulx Ploughmans, Real Wensleydale cheese and Blue 16 cheese from Hawes, mini pork pie, homemade piccalilli and delicious salads with a gourmet roll.  GF and vegetarian option available 

 Quiches and pastries, available on there own, or with a delicious salad and homemade relish.

Yorkshire rarebit crumpets with salad, a very popular choice for a lighter lunch. GF option available 

Also enjoy a selection of sandwhichs and toasties served with many of our own chutneys and pickles, all of which can be bought in our shop to enjoy at home.  All cheese from the Wensleydale creamery in Hawes.  GF and Vegan options available 

We serve our Tradtionally Home Baked Scones from 10am until we close at 4.30pm.  

Traditional Fruit Scone or plain scones, served with butter or add ‘cherry tree preserves’ strawberry rhubarb and vanilla jam and cream.  A range of cherry tree products are available in our shop.

Kit Calvert Cheese Scones served with butter or add real Wensleydale cheese and our homemade wensleydale beer chutney. 

Apricot and stem ginger scone with butter or add apricot and vanilla jam from ‘rosebud preserves’ in Masham and cream and a range of rosebud preserves available in our shop. 

Seasonal special scones, currently we have Yorkshire Rhubarb scone.  Served with butter or add ‘cherry tree preserves’ strawberry rhubarb and vanilla jam and cream 







We recognise how difficult it is to eat out when some of us develop an allergy, we have a great understand and knowledge about what goes into our food.  We have a clear list of allergens at the back of the menu, for a easy and non fuss way to get advice.  We are always available and willing to help with any further advise and information needed.  Please always advise your server of any information we should need for the kitchen. 

Although we take great care in our kitchen when preparing food for those with allergies and intolerances, our kitchen does contain allergens including gluten, dairy and nuts.

Carol, home bakes a great range of DF GF and vegan cakes.  Available daily.  We even won Deliciously Yorkshire best free from product in 2017 for our Raspberry and Almond GF and DF cake, a very proud moment.
