Jervaulx Abbey dates back to 1152 so there has always been work to do to maintain and preserve the property.

During the 1980s, we teamed up with English Heritage, who wrote a report saying Jervaulx abbey is one of the most dangerous sites in Britain. As a family, we worked together with a group of architects in York to draw up  a programme of works to restore and conserve this magnificent building, although grant aided in some of the works by English Heritage, the family have financed the remainder, making it doubly  important that the visitor makes a contribution for their visit.
